Look around and learn a bit more about me, John Gagnon, ACE-CPT, ACE-HC. I hope you enjoy my site and take a moment to drop me a line with any questions you have or would like to schedule a complimentary fit check to learn more about me and my training methods.
In short, "continuous learning" or "continuing education" probably best describes my journey in life. For most of my life, that wasn't formal education due to the cost. But I was able to eventually finish my formal education later in my career which greatly helped my opportunities. "Fitness" was also a concept that escaped me for most of my life for varying reasons but later in life, I was finally able to address exercise after a joint replacement allowed me to move without excruciating pain. I joined a local gym, attended a bootcamp, and began my journey to achieving a level of fitness in my older years that escaped me in my youth.
After months of taking high intensity interval fitness classes, (HIIT), and losing eighty-five pounds, I wanted to know the "why's" and how's" of the various exercise movements that I was performing. I decided to immerse myself in personal training, anatomy, and exercise courses, books, videos, and anything that I could study. At first, this was merely for personal growth as my studies began at the beginning of the COVID epidemic, giving me much more time to dedicate to learning. I purchased the American Council on Exercise Personal Training study materials and after a year of intense reading and studying I decided to challenge myself with their certification exam to 'test' my new knowledge, which I easily passed.
That only served to spur an intense desire to continue my learning journey which resulted in several more fitness certifications and specializations through ACE as well as the Functional Aging Institute. After several certifications and now having a firm grasp on developing exercise programming, I want to share my personal training knowledge and skills to help others in their journeys toward a healthier lifestyle. Being in my early sixties, I find that I have a desire to help mature clients find their inner desire to achieve a healthier, more active and fit future as they approach, or experience retirement. What is retirement if you aren't fit and healthy to enjoy it? This is my calling as I approach my own retirement years. I want to remain active, engaged, and have purpose. What better purpose than to help others find, or develop, better fitness habits along their life journey.
Don't risk injury training to follow Internet exercise videos when you can work with a credentialed trainer that will partner with you, learn about you and your goals, and design a safe and effective workout to achieve your results. I am credentialed with the American Council on Exercise and the Functional Aging Institute.
I'm not going to simply tell you what to do. If you hire me, we will become a team. YOU are in charge in this relationship. We will work TOGETHER to learn about your past experiences with physical activity, your desired goals, and what activities you enjoy doing. Together we will design a program that meets your needs. We will track your progress using metrics that you are comfortable with.
I'm also an online adjunct faculty for the University of New Hampshire - College of Professional Studies in the Health & Wellness and Business programs and as an educator, I will help you understand how your exercise and wellness programs are helping you become a stronger and better you.

Yes! in fact, it's a great way for you to learn about exercise and fitness, as you'll have someone knowledgeable teaching you right from the start!
Not if you don't want to! An important goal for me is that you're comfortable. That means if you prefer to workout outside or in your own home, I can help you accomplish that. If you would like to join a gym, or yoga studio, I can provide some suggestions.
It all depends on you! We'll go at your pace to reach your goals. How fast we do that depends on the time and effort you put in! Your journey starts with that first step.
Some gyms provide "free" personal training, but there's nothing 'personal' about training with a different trainer on every visit. They don't know you, or your goals. They are providing a training session for the moment. There's nothing wrong with that if that's all your looking for but if you train with me, we're going on a journey together. You are the expert on YOU, I'll want to learn about your past experience with physical activity and health challenges and what goals you want to achieve through your program. I'm providing concierge personal training by training with you in your own home where you are safe and comfortable. We can train with your equipment, or I can bring equipment for you.
Some gyms pack you in a class with fifty other members for high-intensity classes. Again, there's nothing 'personal' about this method. Your history and goals aren't considered. You are one of many in class. Again, there's nothing wrong with this type of training if that is what you are looking for, but if you want a truly 'personalized' training experience and develop a relationship with a coach that is working in YOUR best interests, contact me!
After learning about your goals and past experiences with physical activity, we will work together to develop a plan that you feel you can commit to in order to achieve your goals. We will evaluate your progress periodically and discuss any roadblocks that are interfering with achieving your goals and together we will find solutions or workarounds to those roadblocks. Includes nutritional coaching if desired.
Health and wellness encompass the whole person; therefore, I take a holistic view of your health and wellness. I will work with you to learn about your values and goals that you wish to achieve regarding changing behaviors toward more healthy behaviors. I can help coach you toward your health and fitness goals by being your ‘guide on the side’ and empowering you to change your future wellbeing. Includes nutritional coaching if desired.
After spending time contracting and exercising your muscles, it's vital to treat them to some stretching and flexibility sessions to maintain full range of motion in all your joints. I offer one-on-one in-home yoga sessions personalized to your goals. I specialize in gentle, beginner, and fitness yoga. Breathing, (Pranayama), is an integral part of practicing yoga. I will coach you in yogic breathing techniques to help you calm your mind and center yourself.
Nutrition goes hand in hand with body composition changes. You won’t find any meal plans here where I tell you what to eat, how much to eat, when to eat, and how often to eat. There are no ‘good’, nor ‘bad’ foods, ‘clean’, nor ‘unclean’ foods. There is just food. I’ll work with you to design your personal nutritional requirements based upon your age, gender, activity level, as well as body composition to provide a beneficial ratio of macros (protein, carbohydrates, and fats).
